Another map by the coolest-named mapmaker I can think of: My boy Johannes Vingboons; this one taking on the much-loved cartographic trope "California as an Island" depicting Baja California set off from the mainland in a manner similar to Vancouver Island.
This is one of many maps of this era to depict California in this way. Another will be posted (checking...) November 21, 2011.
