Better-known for his maps of oceans, here James Rennell turns his attentions to Northern Africa. Documenting, in this instance, the history of European exploration of the continent.

A hundred years after this map's publication during the rise of what would be called the era of "New Imperialism" the world would see these former explorers trade their pith helmets for less-sporting equipage and touch off a parasitic land-grab that has had deleterious ramifications, up to the present-day.
