Agustus Koch's birdseye map of Salt Lake City, Utah [gmap] in 1870.
This is not only one of my favorite Augustus Koch pieces, it might be one of my favorite birdseye maps, period. The design is dominated by the underpopulated street grid; speaking volumes not only to the ambition that was such a part of the American West, but to the desire to bring order to it. Great piece.
