A great example of Bailey's rather Picassian proto-cubist approach to illustration this birdseye of Bridgeport [gmap], Connecticut is actually one of the more pleasing, to my tastes.
I can not imagine this working anywhere that was platted in a grid – which in the U.S. means anywhere outside of New England and a handful of other places.
