Birdseye view of Azusa [gmap], California in 1887. The Library of Congress has this one as being by Mr. E.S. Moore, but I'm skeptical. Looks rather unlike his other two, and it's reminding me of another style I've seen. At any rate, if it's his, it's his most handsome map.
I think it's pretty common to have and to enjoy those ”Wow, I can't believe how undeveloped everything was back then” reactions – It's soothing, I think, to an American's psyche. That said, nothing so utterly slaps me across the face with those feelings than images from Southern California. If you've been to Azusa or anywhere close, then you know what I'm talking about.

Great map! I grew up in nearby Covina (est. 1905) and can imagine that the layouts are pretty much the same there as in Azusa. Roads and lots identified, sold, then built upon.
Thanks for making it available and I’ll keep looking for maps of areas from my younger years.
No problem, Wayne. Glad you liked it.
Send me the names of the cities you’re looking for, and I can let you know what I find.
