In honor of Liberian Independence Day, here's a bathymetric map of the Saint Paul River in Liberia. From the records of one Captain Kelly.
The map was in the holdings of the American Colonization Society -- a group that was formed in the early 19th Century with the aims of repatriation of U.S. slaves to Africa (Liberia, especially).
When the American Colonization Society formally disbanded in 1964 (!), it donated this and all of its other holdings to the Library of Congress.
