I like this map a lot, and I like this visualization. I'd be interested to see any other lighthouse maps that anyone can come across.
So, seafarers: the size of the circle and the distance quoted ("18 miles", etc.) is what? How far away a ship could expect to see the lighthouse under normal conditions?
