This map isn't part of any series, but we have other maps of Japan that you might want to check out.
Gonna need some help with this one, here. No clue.

This is a map of the Japanese province of Suruga, which roughly corresponds to the modern day prefecture of Shizuoka. Unlike Shizuoka Prefecture, Suruga did not originally contain the Izu peninsula, which is why it is not seen on this map. I wonder, though, how much of Mt. Fuji Suruga contained. Right now the mountain is split down the middle between Shizuoka and Yamanashi.
There’s a legend on the left side, with the following entries, flowing right to left, top to bottom.
First line
- District name
- District border
- Castle town
- Jinya (roughly equivalent to a government office, local magistrate)
- Station town (I think…this one’s hard to find info on)
Second line
- Village name
- Road
- Old castle
- Old battleground
- Border crossing (I think)
- Shrine
Third line
- Not sure…something like “former settlement”
- Famous ruins
Anything else I can help figure out? :)
KC,
Excellent; thank you so much for both the contextualizing geographic/historical information and for the translation. Very gracious of you, very helpful, and very much appreciated.
