Tomorrow marks the 98th anniversary of the opening of the Panama Canal [gmap].

On August 15th, 1914, Captain John A. Constantine piloted the SS Ancon, completing the first official transit.

Y'all know I don't like to brag or anything, but I, myself, piloted the first vehicle to cross the new Grand Avenue bridge here in STL... so yeah, I guess I mean to say that I know what kind of big deal this sort of thing is.

To celebrate, here's a Poole Brothers' birdseye map of the waterway in 1912.
