Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin [gmap] was named by the French for the Sauk American Indians who lived in the are.

Ruger's print shows details the Wisconsin River and several loving-ly rendered islands. He's also conspicuously added two flatboats of a type not usually seen on images of this type. I welcome anyone's guess (or better yet: “definitive answer”) as to what these are, and why, in this image, they are featured.
