Amerine's birdseye of the mining district of Cripple Creek, Colorado [gmap] is so high-angle as to be almost overhead, which really works for what he's trying to do, here.
Originally produced for the Cripple Creek Sunday Herald I could see this as being very useful tool for orientation – and possibly, in a pinch, wayfinding – for the thousands of new workers that such an enterprise must've drawn into the area
